Florence Pathology Services - Excellence in Pathology

Florence Pathology Services is a growing, independent pathology practice. We are community, hospital based, board certified-pathologists with over 40 years combined experience. Florence Pathology Services is accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). It is our intention to provide our clients with the highest quality service possible in meeting their anatomic pathology and cytopathology needs. We are confident that with a community based pathology practice, you will receive more personalized service than national laboratories can offer. In addition, your business helps support the local economy.

We welcome the opportunity to handle your patients’ pathology needs.

Laboratory

Our anatomic pathology laboratory is staffed with an experienced group of histotechnicians who have worked together for over 17 years. They are Board Certified with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology). We offer the following services:

The cytotechnologists serving in our cytology laboratory have a B.S. degree in Cytology and are ASCP board certified.

In reiterating our commitment to providing your patients with the best available technology to detect disease as early as possible, Florence Pathology Services was the first lab in Alabama, north of Birmingham, to offer the Cytyc ThinPrep ® Imaging System.

This state-of-the-art, computer assisted screening system further enhances the quality interpretations yielded from the ThinPrep Pap Test, a cervical cancer screening method that has become the gold standard for patient care. We are confident this approach will provide you with optimal patient outcomes and further minimize exposure to risk. It is important to note that patient samples screened using the ThinPrep Imaging System are covered by reimbursement. We are equipped to perform a wide range of gynecologic and non-gynecologic services in addition to the ThinPrep Pap Test including:

Florence Pathology Services offers specialized testing through our professional association with several specialized reference laboratories including Mayo Clinic and Cytometry Specialist, Inc. These specialized services include flow cytometric analysis, cytogenetics, DNA probe-based testing for infectious disease analysis, PCR, Fluorescent in-situ Hybridization (FISH) and other molecular tests.

Reporting

Florence Pathology Services processes surgical specimens the same day as received and completes interpretation and reporting within 24 hours for most routine cases. Reporting times may vary depending upon the complexity of the case and the need for special studies.

The goal of our laboratory is to report gynecologic cytology results within 2 to 3 days of receiving the specimen.

Results may be reported, at your request, via:

Our pathologists will contact the referring physician personally if test results warrant.

Billing

Our billing service files insurance claims and accepts responsibility for obtaining payment from your patients and third-party payers. In addition, we are happy to work directly with any patient who has billing questions or concerns. Our Client Services Representative can assist your staff as needed to solve any billing issues.

The patient’s full name, sex, date of birth and Social Security number are required on all requisition forms that accompany the specimen. This is required for correct patient identification.

Complete billing information, including guarantor information, primary insurance name, group number, policy number and secondary insurance information is necessary to expedite payment of the claim.

Pricing

Pricing rarely becomes an issue because of the fee schedule we have agreed on with our participating insurance companies. Regarding indigent patients, we review those on a case by case basis and generally write off the same percentage as the referring physician. Our Client Service Representative will be happy to review our fee schedule with you.

Participating Insurance Companies
